Senior Vehicle System Engineer

Position Overview:

You will play a critical role in the design, analysis, and optimization of vehicle dynamics systems, focusing on brake, steering, and Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) performance. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and validate advanced vehicle systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and comfort.

Role and Responsibilities:

Brake System Development:

  • Design, analyse, and optimize brake systems to meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct simulations and tests to evaluate braking performance, including stopping distance, pedal feel, and thermal management.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to integrate advanced brake technologies, such as ABS, ESC, and regenerative braking systems.

Steering System Development:

  • Develop and refine steering system architectures, including electric power steering (EPS) and active steering systems.
  • Perform kinematic and dynamic analysis of steering components to ensure precise handling and stability.
  • Validate steering system performance through simulation and physical testing, focusing on steering feel, response, and durability.

Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH):

  • Analyse and mitigate NVH issues in vehicle systems, with a focus on minimizing noise and vibration from brakes, steering, and suspension components.
  • Conduct experimental modal analysis, sound quality evaluation, and vibration testing.
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to implement NVH countermeasures during the vehicle development process.

Vehicle Dynamics Simulation and Testing:

  • Utilize multi-body dynamics (MBD) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools to model and simulate vehicle behaviour under various driving conditions.
  • Develop and execute test plans for vehicle dynamics validation, including track testing and laboratory-based evaluations.
  • Analyse test data and correlate with simulation models to improve accuracy and predictability of vehicle performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other engineering teams, including suspension, powertrain, and body engineering, to ensure cohesive vehicle dynamics integration.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing insights and recommendations to enhance overall vehicle performance.
  • Support product development from concept to production, ensuring that vehicle dynamics targets are met at each stage.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in vehicle dynamics, brake, steering, and NVH engineering.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in vehicle systems and processes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the team.

Knowledge Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, with specific expertise in brake systems, steering systems, and NVH.
  • Proficiency in vehicle dynamics simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, ADAMS, CarSim, or similar).
  • Experience with NVH analysis tools (e.g., LMS TestLab, Bruel & Kjaer, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with physical testing and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed engineering decisions.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve vehicle dynamics issues effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong team player with experience working in cross-functional teams and a collaborative mindset.
  • 8-10 years of experience in automotive engineering, with a focus on vehicle dynamics, brake, steering, and NVH.
  • Experience working with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., FMVSS, ECE).
  • Familiarity with automotive manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Ability to work in a test environment, including driving and testing vehicles.

Personal attributes:

  • Professional, credible, and responsible
  • Demonstrates great drive to achieve outstanding results
  • Resilient and adaptable
  • Passionate about the environment and believing in the electric revolution of the automotive industry
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required
